In 2010 Dr. Carl M. Cohen completed a four month consulting engagement to an international biotechnology company involving assessing management competencies and organizational effectiveness. Dr Cohen directed the implementation of changes within the organization which led to a more responsive management structure and a more effective technical operations group.

SMA conducted training in negotiation skills for a new product launch team at a major biotechnology company in the greater Boston area.  The training provided members of the development, commercial, clinical and manufacturing groups with skills that enabled the airing of multiple viewpoints during project meetings  and enhanced collaborative decision making.

A six month project for a top-ten pharma company to improve the transition of drug candidates from research to discovery. The objective was to enable the client to deal with increased output from their discovery labs. Our recommendations, which  included the creation of a new organizational unit within the company, are now being enthusiastically implemented by the client.


A  project for a mid-western research institution to help them resolve a longstanding conflict among senior scientists in different divisions. Our recommendations included the creation of a governance body  to manage  a major shared institutional facility as well as guidance on the adjudication and long term resolution of the conflict.
